Job Description:

A leading Structural Engineering Company requires steel fabricators/welders. Graham Wood Structural Ltd builds offices, industrial units and fabricates an extensive range of steelwork for all significant types of structures. You will be employed by Skills Provision and contracted out to Graham Wood Structural Ltd. Rate: £8.00ph. NOTE: An English language bonus for all fluent English speakers and writers will be paid of £0.50 an hour

Location : Servicing the whole of the UK – primarily the South of England.
Skills Required :

MIG welding qualification with one year’s practical experience. One year’s experience working in a structural steel environment. Ability to communicate in English. The right to work in the United Kingdom (assistance given with registration for qualifying candidates). Flexible and willing to work overtime at the standard rate.

Additional Information:

You will be operating on your own, or in small teams, reporting to a workshop foreman or manager. A minimum of 45 hours a week, on a rolling 12 week period is guaranteed. 28 days paid holiday. Start off rate will be £8.00 per hour. After 3 months and completion of all registration requirements this will be supplemented by a bonus of £0.50 on all hours worked. Salary paid every 4 weeks, wage advances will be available for the first 3 months. All hours worked are payable at the flat rate. Shift patterns are fluid - either 6am to @3pm or 4pm until finish. Duties: Fabricating/Welding structural steel elements (beams, columns, frames, trusses, plate girders and the like) according to drawings issued by the drawing office. Work is allocated by the issue of drawings to the fabricator and the structural steel elements are fed to the fabricator’s bench along with the fittings. The fabricator assembles the element by reading the drawing. This will involve, marking out the position of the fittings and then tack welding them into the correct position to the prescribed tolerances. On completion of this part of the work the element is either passed on to the welders for welding or is welded by the fabricator/welder. Tack welding is by MMA (arc), full welding using MIG. The fabricator/welder is also required to use overhead cranes to move and turn element safely and without reliance on others. Other activities include flame cutting of sections to length. Heat treatment for straightening, grinding to prepare surfaces and on occasion hand drilling of pieces. From time to time the fabricator will be required to use the guillotine and pillar drill. The understanding of drawings and the ability to calculate dimensions to check work as well as angular calculations for curved work is important, as is accuracy. Preheats elements, using hand torch. Positions, aligns, fits and welds parts together. Verifies conformance of elements too specifications, using square, ruler and measuring tape. May set up and operate machine tools associated with fabrication, such as radial press, end mill and edge planer.
