Before contacting Skills Provision please ensure that you have considered:
- Contract law varies from country to country make sure you understand how it works in the country you have chosen
- Personal issues that might impact on your ability to honour contract commitments. An example would be the strain on family life is a father/mother is separated from their children. If an applicant has not undertaken an international contract previously it might be more prudent to apply elsewhere for a short term contract to make sure it works for all members of the family.
- Social – cultural differences make the world a richer place, but make sure you consider such matters before progressing.
- Language – the majority of jobs require competence in the language of the country in which you will be working. Don’t try and deceive on language competence it will boomerang on you. It is highly likely that your language competence will be tested during the recruitment process.
- Financial – research the cost of living wherever you are thinking of working. It takes minutes to do on the internet but is well worth doing before applying for jobs.
- Professional – what are you prepared to do, some skills are not directly transferable such as Legal. Accountancy and Electrical skills. Sometimes it is a backward step to get on the ladder. Again don’t try to deceive it doesn’t work.
- Transportation – most jobs require mobility. Sometimes help is available but not always – make enquiries
- Accommodation – where will you live, what will it cost you? Do your research.
OK, so you are now ready to progress, the next step is the production of a quality CV. We can not stress the importance of this document as it is your calling card with any agency you approach and in due course will be the central document in the presentation to a potential future client which might be Skils provision or a third party.
You will see that a CV creation tool exists here which has been carefully designed to “force” you to provide vital information including a photograph. If you go this route it has certain advantages.

- You can print copies of the CV for your own use
- You can return and edit it at any time
- Within the site is powerful software that cross matches CV’s received to job vacancies on an ongoing basis but the CV must be complete
- Completed CV’s automatically go to a consultant as well
Using this route we are able to operate efficiently and to remain highly competitive in the market place. We feel that the investment of 15 minutes of your time is a small price to gain such advantages but it is up to you.
The alternative strategy which will work for a quality CV is to email it to us directly but please be precise in the following areas
- Position sought – saying sales is useless, be more focused
- Location – Europe is equally useless , be more focussed
- Package – Market rate isn’t helpful , by all means band, the narrower the better
- Contact- how, when etc – include mobile/landline and email address and put your name on the subject line of the email sent.
Additional requirements
Familiarise your self with the registration requirements in your country of choice the following relates to the UK only by way of example but each regulatory authority or agency may have slightly different requirements
- We will require a scan of your passport or national identity card to be emailed to us at the time of application to prove your nationality
- One of the reasons that we ask for a photograph on your CV is for easy comparison.
- It is advisable for you to get a clear police check in your home country with an authenticating stamp
- Get any professional qualifications translated into English ready for submission
- Copies of driving licenses may be requested. Make sure you are ready to drive as it is often necessary to drive to work.
- Get at least 4 passport sized photos, 2 will be immediately needed for registration purposes under the Workers Registration scheme.
- We will require a health check to be undertaken should a contract be offered
- Sufficient cash to exist until your first pay day

It’s in your own interest to make yourself the right candidate and we’ll try to help.
When you arrive in your chosen country the following steps will be necessary
- Complete contract paperwork, we urge people to view and study the documentation before accepting any job offer. These are legally enforceable document and you can not simply walk away from your employment or living accommodation agreements for example.
- Obtaining a bank account to facilitate payments
- Registering with a local Doctor (in the UK you can not simply walk into a Doctors and be treated – you have to be registered – do it when you arrive and when you are fit and don’t need treatment)
- Registering with the Workers Registration Council, most employers will help you with the forms. In the UK the cost of registration is £90
- Getting a National insurance number which is something you have to do in person but most employers will guide you through the process but you will pay higher tax rates until you supply this number to your employer.
It may sound challenging as it is unfamiliar but in reality it is a straight forward process but it does take time. The better organised you are at the outset the easier it will be.
